Bluejays' close 2017-18 with a Team GPA of 3.633
Atlanta, Ga. -- The Creighton women's basketball team was honored Tuesday, July 31st as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2017-18 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Bluejays ranked ninth in NCAA Division I, with a team grade point average of 3.633.
Creighton is one of two BIG EAST institutions honored in the top-25 as DePaul came in 15th with a 3.531 GPA. The Bluejays have now earned the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor seven times in head coach Jim Flanery's 16 seasons at the helm. Claiming ninth place in NCAA Division I is the Bluejays highest finish since 2010-11, when Creighton was fourth overall with a GPA of 3.527.
The Bluejays not only excelled in the classroom, but made its 11th consecutive postseason appearance last season, reaching the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. The WBCA Academic Top 25 is handed out to teams throughout the nation that carry the highest GPA for the entire season, based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
"We are more than proud of how committed to academics our players are. The ability to have success on the court (back-to-back NCAA Second Round teams) and achieve at this level in the classroom is a statement to the quality of the student-athletes we have at Creighton," said Flanery. "Recruiting student-athletes who excel both on the court and in the classroom is an integral part of being a Bluejay."
