White Tops Blue In Volleyball Scrimmage

#13 Creighton impressive in first fall competition
OMAHA, Neb. -- The No. 13 Creighton Volleyball team opened its fall season on Saturday, Aug. 11 with the "White" team topping the "Blue" team in four sets during the program's annual Blue-White Scrimmage.
Scores of the match were 25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 27-25.
All 15 players on the roster, plus 2017 All-American Marysa Wilkinson, saw action in the match, with each woman spending at least one set on each team to give the coaches a variety of looks in preparation for the season. Seven newcomers also saw their first fall action inside D.J. Sokol Arena for the Bluejays.
Creighton's freshman quartet of Keeley Davis, Annika Welty, Jaela Zimmerman and Kari Zumach, ranked 10th nationally by PrepVolleyball.com, combined for 38 kills, two aces, 27 digs and 14 blocks. The transfer trio of Madelyn Cole, Grace Nelson and Megan Sharkey combined for 64 assists and 25 digs.
Creighton's senior outside hitters Taryn Kloth and Jaali Winters led the way for CU, combining for 33 kills, 20 digs and seven blocks. Both women, along with libero Brittany Witt (19 digs), were named Preseason All-BIG EAST on Monday.
Creighton will host Kansas State next Friday at 6:30 pm in another exhibition before opening the regular-season on Aug. 24 at the Trojan Invitational with a match against No. 5 Kentucky.
