Gannon Era Opens As Both Cross Country Teams Place Seventh at Augustana Twilight

Meet was the first under new head coach Chris Gannon
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Creighton men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their seasons this Friday at the Augustana Twilight race in Sioux Falls, S.D., at the Yankton Trails on Friday evening. It was the first meet for both programs under first-year head coach Chris Gannon, who was hired in February.
The women's team finished seventh out of 25 teams, with a point total of 193, and just ahead of eighth-place Nebraska-Omaha who finished the night with 210 points. South Dakota finished in first place with a point total of 24 followed by Nebraska in second with 45.
Leading the women was freshman was Danielle Hotalling, who finished the 5K race with a time of 18:09.36 in her collegiate debut. Following Hotalling's finish was classmate Marguerite Hendrickson, who ran a 19:19.39 to earn a 46th place finish. The next Creighton runner to finish was sophomore Amy Leasure in 52nd, exactly 13 seconds behind Hendrickson with a time of 19:32.39. After Leasure, was junior Haley Fye in 62nd place with a time of 19:41.60. Next up was Caroline Pass. The junior finished 77th after running a time of 19:55.24. Following Pass was sophomore Katie Fukushima with a time of 20:00.39 which earned her an 82nd place finish. Rounding out the top seven Creighton finishers was freshman Erica Cradeur in 109th place with a time of 20:23.06. Also competing and placing 130th was freshman Chloe Cassens (20:47.47).
The men's team finished in seventh place out of 23 squads in the 7K race with a score of 238, just ahead of Northwestern (Iowa). Nebraska finished in first with 34 points, edging out Sioux Falls (68) for the title.
The first Creighton finisher was 23rd place junior Chase Howard, who ran a time of 22:32.36. Next up for the Bluejay men was 56th place junior Max Wehrle, running a 23:06.06. Following Wehrle, was Bryce Shirley in 72nd place after running a 23:23.91 in his collegiate debut. In 83rd was freshman Boston Small who ran a 23:33.15. After Small was junior Nate Fedel. His time of 23:38:51 earned him an 88th place finish. Just 2.21 seconds later was junior Nick Monkemeyer in 91st with a time of 23:38.51. Freshman Aidan King debuted for the Bluejays with a time of 23:43.93 in 97th place. Rounding out the Creighton runners was freshman Jackson Stamper in 105th place after running a 23:52.10.
