Creighton Women's Soccer Faces Off with Xavier Thursday Night

Omaha, Neb. -- Coming off a 2-0 win over DePaul in the opening match of BIG EAST play, the Creighton women's soccer team hits the road to battle with Xavier on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 pm.

Scouting Creighton (7-3-0)
For the second straight season the Bluejays started off BIG EAST play with a win. Creighton topped DePaul for the first time ever in school history to collect the BIG EAST opener for the third time in four years.
The Bluejays are led by freshman phenom Skylar Heinrich and her eight goals and 18 points on the year. Heinrich delivered the game-winning goal in the BIG EAST opener against DePaul on Sept. 28 after DePaul's Mollie Erikkson initially stopped the long entry pass and near collision, Heinrich maintained her balanced then regained the ball and sent in her third game-winning tally of the season.
Bluejay netminder Katie Sullivan has guided the Creighton defense to a 7-3-0 record (6-2-0 directly under Sullivan), while posting three shutouts and a 1.03 GAA in eight matches in net. Sullivan has collected 40 saves, wile allowing just eight goals.
Scouting Xavier (7-2-2)
Xavier is 7-2-2 on the season after completing non-conference 7-1-2, including wins in five of their last six matches. Xavier, however, dropped their BIG EAST opener to Villanova, 1-0, despite firing off 16 shots.
BIG EAST points leader Samantha Dewey directs the Musketeer's offense with nine goals, three assists, and 21 points. Jackie Richards has also contributed three goals this season. Defensively, Olivia Jenkins and Toni Bizzarro have split time in net for Xavier. Jenkins has collected 10 saves and one shutout in five starts, while Bizzarro has denied 18 shots while collecting three shutouts in six starts. The duo has allowed just nine goals all season for a 0.76 GAA.
Sullivan Collects BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Bluejays sophomore Katie Sullivan collected her second BIG EAST honor on Monday, Sept. 30, earning the BIG EAST's Goalkeeper of the Week.
Returning to the net after being sidelined for two matches last week by a leg injury, Sullivan posted her third shutout of the season in Creighton's 2-0 win over DePaul. Sullivan recorded her second highest save total of the season, collecting six of her seven saves in the second half. In total Sullivan faced 20 shots against the Blue Demons, including eight on frame.
Heinrich Honored by BIG EAST for Fourth Time
Heinrich nabbed a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday, Sept. 30, following her game-winning goal and five shot performance against DePaul in the BIG EAST opener on Sept. 28.
Heinrich has scored eight goals this season, all coming at home, to lead the Bluejay's and rank second in the BIG EAST in points with 18.
Bluejays Open BIG EAST Play With a Victory
Since joining the BIG EAST prior to the 2013 season, Creighton has opened conference play 3-4-0 in the Bluejays' opening BIG EAST battle. Overall the Bluejays are a combined 13-8-2 in the opening match of conference play.
