Women's Soccer Downed 3-1 in BIG EAST Road Opener at Xavier

Cincinnati, Ohio -- Despite freshman Skylar Heinrich delivering her team-leading ninth goal of the season, the Creighton women's soccer team dropped its BIG EAST road opener 3-1 at Xavier on Thursday, Oct. 3.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 7-4-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in BIG EAST play, while Xavier climbed to 8-2-2 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action.
The Musketeers got on the scoreboard first in the 13th minute as Sydney Schembri collected a rebounded shot that was saved by Creighton goalkeeper Keelan Terrell. Xavier's Brooke Sroka earned the assist as she sent in the first shot of the sequence.
Xavier extended its lead to 2-0 with one second remaining in the 24th minute, with Rachel Butler scoring off another rebound. This time the first shot was fired by Jenna Prathapa.
Creighton answered in the 38th minute of play as Heinrich took a crossing pass from senior Cassie Legband from the right side of the pitch to the left. Heinrich took two touches, then fired a shot by Xavier's Olivia Jenkins to make it 2-1. Legand was credited with the assist.
The match remained 2-1 into the half, but Xavier struck in the second frame as Brooke Sroka collected her first goal of the season in the 68th minute.
Heinrich became the first women's soccer freshman to score in each of Creighton's first two conference games of a season since Franny Hylok in 2000.
In the match Creighton was out shot, 19-10, while the Bluejays trailed in corner kicks 7-4.
Creighton will remain on the road through the weekend, facing Marquette on Sunday in Milwaukee at 1:00 pm (CT).
