Series Record - Creighton trails Marquette (3-5-2)
Coaching Records
Creighton - Ross Paule - 36-41-6 (Fifth Season)
Marquette - Markus Rodgers - 322-145-50 (24th Season)
Scouting Creighton (7-4-0, 1-1-0 BE)
For the third time in four seasons Creighton sits at 1-1-0 following two matches of BIG EAST play, in both 2016 and 2018 the Bluejays dropped the third match to fall to 1-2-0. Head coach Ross Paule has designs to make 2019 different, thanks to the emergence of freshman stalwart Skylar Heinrich, the dedicated play of senior Taryn Jakubowski and his deepest squad since arriving at Morrison Stadium.
Heinrich delivered her ninth goal of the season in Creighton's loss at Xavier, while the Bluejays used 19 players in the match. One of the reasons that Heinrich has had such success is Jakubowski's ability to draw the defense away.
Bluejay netminder Katie Sullivan has guided the Creighton defense to 6-2-0, while posting three shutouts and a 1.03 GAA in eight matches in net. Sullivan has collected 40 saves, while allowing just eight goals.
Scouting Marquette (3-8-0, 0-2-0 BE)
Although the Golden Eagles enter Sunday's battle with Creighton at just 3-8-0, Marquette is a much stronger team than the record shows. The Golden Eagles are 2-3-0 at home with victories over Michigan and Colorado State.
Marquette has opened BIG EAST play with two of the stronger opponents, facing #12 Georgetown on the road and hosting Providence on Thursday.
Although Creighton is the road team, Marquette went to double overtime before falling to the Friars. The Golden Eagles have played five overtime contests in 11 matches this season. Going to a second overtime session four times. Shockingly each match finished with a result.
Offensively Marquette has seven goals, led by two from Macey Shock. The play of goalkeeper Maddy Henry is an area of strength for the Golden Eagles, she has 66 saves over 11 matches.
