Women's Basketball Drops Road Game At Butler, 66-46

Jaylyn Agnew and Temi Carda each had 12 points to lead the Jays
Indianapolis, Ind. – The Creighton women's basketball team dropped a 66-46 decision to Butler on Friday night at the Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Bluejays fell to 5-9 in BIG EAST play and 11-14 overall, while the Bulldogs improved to 9-4 in league play and 19-5 overall.
The game started off the Bluejays' way, as consecutive three-pointers by senior Audrey Faber and sophomore Temi Carda gave Creighton an early 6-2 edge. Knotted at 6-6 at the first quarter media timeout, junior Jaylyn Agnew converted her first of four three-pointers in opening half to give Creighton a 9-6 lead with 4:41 remaining in the first 10 minutes. Agnew made her second consecutive trey to push the Bluejays lead to 12-8 before the Bulldogs closed the first quarter with six straight points to take a two-point lead, 14-12, into the second period.
Butler jumped out to its largest lead of the first half at 12 (27-15) with a 13-3 run over the first seven minutes of the second quarter. Agnew's fourth made field goal from long range pulled Creighton within nine points, 27-18 before the Bulldogs pushed their advantage to 12 points two other times in the closing moments of the first half. Jade Owens' second-chance layup – Creighton's first made two-point field goal -- cut the halftime deficit to 32-22.
The visiting Bluejays cut the deficit to four points with the first six points of the second half. Carda's pull-up jumper made it 32-28 with 7:34 to play in the third quarter.
Butler, however, closed the third quarter on a 10-0 and led 46-32 heading to the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs put the game away with the first 15 points of the final period.
The Bluejays went on an 8-0 midway through the final quarter and scored 13 of the final 18 points.
Agnew and Carda each finished with 12 points to pace the Bluejays.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Sunday, Feb. 17 as the Bluejays face Xavier on BEDN at 1:00 pm (CT).
