Volleyball Trio Heading To U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts

Madelyn Cole, Keeley Davis and Alexa Roumeliotis will try out
OMAHA, Neb. – Three Creighton Volleyball student-athletes will participate in the 2019 U.S. Women's National Team open tryouts, which are taking place this weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo. Madelyn Cole, Keeley Davis and Alexa Roumeliotis will each head to the U.S. Olympic Training Center for the tryouts, which will be held March 1-3.
The trio will be competing for a spot on the U.S. Women's National Team and/or the U.S. Collegiate National Teams program. There are 215 student-athletes from 88 colleges/universities that are expected to participate. U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly and his staff will direct the entire tryout process.
Selections for the U.S. Collegiate National Teams will be made by the end of March.
The tryout will involve four sessions with three waves per session. Roumeliotis will participate in Friday's "Red Wave" session that starts at 3 p.m. CST, Cole is part of the "White Wave" session that begins at 4:50 p.m. CST and Davis' "Blue Wave" session commences at 7 p.m. CST. Cole will wear jersey number G59, Davis W24 and Roumeliotis N38.
All sessions of the tryout (minus the USA Training session on Sunday) will be streamed live at https://www.teamusa.org/usa-volleyball/video. USA Volleyball will use #USAVtryout as the event hashtag for photos, notes, quotes and stories posted to its social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat under the handle @usavolleyball.
The U.S. Collegiate National Team program has three competition options:
- U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team – May 19-30, Japan (International)
- U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team – June 23-29, Anaheim, Calif. (Domestic)
- U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team – June 30-July 14, World University Games -- Napoli, Italy (International)
Cole was named First Team All-BIG EAST and AVCA All-East Region as a junior after leading the BIG EAST with 10.92 assists per set and ranking second with 0.43 service aces per set. Roumeliotis, a rising junior, finished with 210 digs in 110 sets played. Davis redshirted her first year on campus and has four years of eligibility remaining.
Coached by Kirsten Bernthal Booth, Creighton's 2018 team finished 29-5 and ranked 13th in the final AVCA poll while winning both the BIG EAST Conference regular-season and tournament titles for a fifth straight season.
Creighton has had several women play internationally with USA Volleyball in recent seasons, as Brittany Witt (Thailand), Jaali Winters (Croatia) and Taryn Kloth (China) have all represented Team USA at one time or another.
