HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- The Creighton women's golf team opened its spring season by winning 2-of-3 match play competitions at the Motor City Cup in Florida. The meet was held as a series of match play contests, with Creighton splitting matches on Monday against Loyola Chicago (lost 4.5 - 1.5) and Valparaiso (won 5 - 1) before closing with a victory over Illinois-Chicago (won 4.5 - 1.5).
The meet was contested at the Mission Inn Resort Las Colinas course, which measured 6,171 yards and was a par 73.

CU's lone win came from Amelia Lee, who won by a 7&5 score over Jenny Myslinski from Loyola. Lee won the second hole of the match and never trailed, pulling away while also taking the seventh, eighth, ninth, 11th and 12th holes before wrapping it up on the 13th hole. Caroline Lake earned CU's lone tie in the contest, battling back from an early deficit against Abbey Meyers to earn the half-point.
In the afternoon, Creighton defeated Valparaiso 5-1, not trailing in the final 13 holes of any of its wins. Katie Allen defeated Valpo's Kylie Shoemake by a 7&6 count, while Sydney Gillespie downed Kayla Krueger, 3&1. Lee stayed unbeaten on the day with a 5&3 triumph over Payton Hodson, and Margaret Hickey overwhelmed Morgan Kier 6&4. Lake won a 4&2 decision over Shelby Schier.
The Bluejays wrapped up their first spring competition with a victory over UIC, 4.5 - 1.5, to secure fifth place in the eight-team field. Lake completed an unbeaten tournament with a 1 UP win over Shivani Majmaudar. Lee also remained unbeaten by rallying from a 2-hole deficit with four to play to tie Meghan Kramp.
