Indianapolis, Ind. -- The Creighton Baseball team was forced to settle for a road series win at Butler, falling 5-0 to the Bulldogs in the series finale and the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 19-8 on the season and 2-1 in BIG EAST play, while Butler moved to 18-15 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
Butler got on the board first in the opening frame, turning a walk and a hit batter into a 2-0 lead.
The Bluejay bats were held in check for eight innings by Connor Schultz. The righty limited Creighton to five hits and one walk to collect the win (5-0). Creighton starter Evan Johnson took his first loss of the season (4-1), allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits, three walks and a hit batter in 3.1 innings.
Creighton's best chance to push a run across came in the eighth. Down 4-0, Creighton loaded the bases with one down via a pinch-hit single from Andrew Meggs, a double by junior Will Robertson and a walk to junior Jake Holton. Consecutive fly outs left the bags loaded, then Butler tacked on a final run in its half of the inning.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Thursday as the Bluejays begin another road conference series, facing Seton Hall in three games. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
