Hull Claims BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, Robertson Earns Honor Roll

New York, N.Y. -- Creighton senior Denson Hull collected his first BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week award on Tuesday, May 7th as he as well as junior Will Robertson earned recognition from the conference's weekly honors.
Hull moved to 4-0 in BIG EAST play, retiring 15 of 16 men he faced in the Bluejays' 14-2 win over Georgetown on Friday, May 3rd. Hull started the second half of Creighton's doubleheader with the Hoyas, but the game was suspended in the top of the sixth inning. Once it was completed the following day, Hull and the Bluejays held a 9-0 lead, so he gave way to the bullpen. Hull struck out five and allowed just one hit to the Hoyas, during his start as the Texas native lowered his BIG EAST ERA to 1.17 in 23.0 innings.
Robertson earned an Honor Roll nod as the Missouri native was 7-for-17 (.412) with eight RBI, two home runs and five extra base hits in the Bluejays' 4-0 week.
Hull, Robertson and the rest of the Bluejay return to the diamond on Friday for a home series with St. John's beginning at 6:30 pm.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Tyler Shedler-McAvoy, Seton Hall, Jr. OF (Allendale, N.J.)
Seton Hall junior Shedler-McAvoy had a second consecutive big week for the Pirates as they climb in the BIG EAST standings, this time becoming the first team to win a series against former league-leader Xavier this season. Against the Musketeers, Shedler-McAvoy went 5-for-12 (.417)Â with four RBI. In Saturday's series clinching contest against the Musketeers, the outfielder finished a single shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple, a double, a run scored and three RBI. On Sunday, he reached base three more times, going 2-for-4 with a walk, RBI and a run scored. For the week, he batted .474 (9-for-19) with four runs, nine RBI, six walks and four stolen bases. Seton Hall won four of five.

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Denson Hull, Creighton, Sr., LHP (San Antonio, Texas)
Creighton senior lefty Denson Hull earned the victory in the second half of a Georgetown doubleheader on Friday that extended into Saturday. Denson retired 15 of 16 batters before Friday's game was suspended in the top of the sixth. Although the southpaw did not return to the mound the following day, Hull struck out five and allowed just one hit to the Hoyas. Creighton led 9-0 at the time the game was suspended. The win was the fourth for Hull in league play as he lowered his BIG EAST ERA to 1.17 in 23.0 innings. He has not allowed a run in BIG EAST play since his April 19th start against Seton Hall.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Will Robertson, Creighton, Jr., OF
Robertson led the Bluejays to a 4-0 week, including a road sweep of Georgetown hitting .412 (7-for-17) with two home runs, three doubles and eight RBI. He also scored five times. He collected at least one hit and one RBI in each game, posting a pair of extra-base hits in the Bluejays' final two games with Georgetown.
Harrison Freed, Butler, Jr., OF
Freed batted .600 (6-for-10) in a 2-1 series victory for Butler over Villanova. Freed had two hits in each game, ending the weekend with five RBI and three runs scored. Half of his hits went for extra bases with two doubles and one homer. He also walked three times to boost his on-base percentage to .692.
Kevin Napoleon, Butler, Jr., LHP
Napoleon tossed 6.1 shutout innings in a 17-0 victory over Villanova, clinching the series win for Butler. Napoleon struck out a season high nine batters and limited the Wildcats to just one hit.
Nick Mondak, St. John's, Jr., LHP
Lefty Mondak struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits and a walks in six shutout innings against Iona on Tuesday. It was the first time this season a St. John's pitcher struck out 10 in a single outing
Ricky DeVito, Seton Hall, Jr., RHP
DeVito set the tone for Seton Hall in its series at Xavier, leading the Pirates to a 3-1 series opening victory. DeVito went 7.0 innings, struck out eight and allowed just one walk with seven hits.
