Men's Soccer Ends Exhibition Slate With 2-1 Victory Over UIC

Bluejays score pair of second-half goals
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to outlast UIC 2-1 during the Bluejays' final exhibition match on Saturday afternoon at Morrison Stadium.
After both teams went scoreless in the opening 45 minutes, Kuba Polat converted a penalty kick during the 66th minute to give Creighton a 1-0 edge. Ziyad Fares drew a foul in the middle of the box to set up the PK.
Freshman Diego Dutilh added to the Bluejays' tally with a goal during the 72nd minute. The Chile native launched a shot from just inside Creighton's half of midfield and over the goalkeeper before the ball bounced over the endline.
UIC cut into the final deficit with a goal off a header in the 82nd minute.
Creighton concluded its exhibition slate with one win and two draws and scored three goals while allowing two. The Bluejays open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 30 at No. 6 North Carolina. Kickoff in Chapel Hill, North Carolina is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central.
Senior defender Julius Fohr, who played in 50 matches, including 43 starts over the past three seasons, suffered a season-ending injury last week. A native of Montabaur, Germany, Fohr will serve as a student assistant coach for the 2019 season while continuing to complete course work for his degree in international business and marketing.
