Cross Country Teams Set For First Home Meet Since 2012

OMAHA Neb. – Creighton cross country is set to open its 2019 cross country campaign Saturday evening in Omaha with a dual meet against Drake, which will take place at the Skutt Catholic Athletic Complex (3131 S 156th St, Omaha, NE 68130).

The race will be the first time Creighton has hosted a meet since 2012, and is free to attend.

"It is exciting to host a home meet, the first any of our athletes have experienced," said second-year Creighton head coach Chris Gannon. "I appreciate Mark Carroll for bringing over the Drake program to kick off the season as two former MVC rivals hit the course. It should be a great night for cross country and a fantastic event for our local running community. We are hoping for a good crowd to cheer on the athletes and experience a college meet here in Omaha."

The season-opener will feature a four kilometer race for the women and a six kilometer race for the men. The ladies will kick things off with a 6:00 p.m. start, while the men will start at 6:35 p.m.

The Bluejays will be looking to build off their performance from last fall in which both teams finished eighth at the Big East Championships. On the women's side the Bluejays return their top seven from conference and will be lead by sophomore Danielle Hotalling, who finished 25^th at the 2018 BIG EAST Championships. Meanwhile the men's team will be bolstered with new additions looking to make an impact with last year's top runner, Chase Howard, redshirting.
