Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country and Men's Golf Earn BIG EAST Academic Honors

New York, N.Y. -- The BIG EAST Conference recognized 22 teams with the 2018-19 Team Academic Excellence Award for having the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport. Three Creighton teams collected the prestigious honor as Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country and Men's Golf earned the nod for the second consecutive season.
Butler and St. John's tied for the most with four certificates. Creighton and Seton Hall had three. DePaul and Villanova each had a pair of teams earn certificates, while Georgetown and Marquette, and affiliate schools Temple and Denver rounded out the award with one nod apiece.
Creighton has had six teams honored a total of 16 times by the BIG EAST since joining the league six years ago. The women's cross country team holds the most for Creighton with four (2014, 2016, 2018 & 2019), women's basketball (2016, 2018 & 2019) and women's golf (2014, 2015 & 2016) have been recognized three times. Men's golf earned the honor for the second season (2018 & 2019), joining men's tennis (2016, 2017) and men's cross country (2015, 2016) programs were honored twice each.
The winners were chosen based on the 2018-19 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
