About Georgetown
Scouting Georgetown (5-23, 2-15 BIG EAST)
The Hoyas have struggled during BIG EAST play, dropping 14 of the last 15 games. In spite of Georgetown's struggles, the Bluejays remember that Georgetown held a 33-23 lead at halftime of their first meeting between the two squads.
Taylor Barnes and Brianna Jones lead the way for the Hoyas as the duo combine to average 21.5 ppg. Barnes leads her squad with 48 treys on the season, while Nikola Kovacikova can also hit the trey (32-of-96).
On the defensive end, the Hoyas force just under 14 turnovers per game this season.
Â
Scouting Creighton (18-10, 10-7 BIG EAST)
The Bluejay got back in the winning column over the last two games with an increased focus on the defensive end. Against Xavier (Feb. 23rd) and Villanova (Feb. 28th), the Bluejays allowed just 109 combined points, including 47 to the Wildcats on Friday.
Creighton enters Sunday's battle in a four-way tie for fourth place and all the matchups on the final day of the regular season have postseason implications.
Senior Jaylyn Agnew is the driving force for Creighton on offense, leading the team with 19.9 ppg and 6.3 rpg, but four Bluejays average double-digits. Behind Agnew is Temi Carda (13.0 ppg), followed closely by Tatum Rembao (10.4 ppg) and Olivia Elger (10.4 ppg).
The X factor for the Bluejays maybe the contributions of sophomore Rachael Saunders and freshman Carly Bachelor. When Creighton can get scoring from those two off the bench, the Bluejays can be a very tough team to beat.
Keys To the Game on Sunday, March 1st
When Agnew Leads, Wins Follow
Senior Jaylyn Agnew has led Creighton in scoring 15 times this season. In those
contests the Bluejays are 14-1, dropping only the game at Seton Hall on Jan. 17th.
Morgan Turner Expected To Make Her Season Debut Sunday
Bluejay senior Morgan Turner ended her on-court career prior to the 2019-20 season to due cumulative back injuries, but the Kentucky native is expected to play for a short time on Sunday. It is unclear if she will start the game or play at a later time.
Saunders Equals D.J. Sokol Record with Six Steals in Win Over Villanova
Sophomore Rachael Saunders tied a D.J. Sokol Arena record for Bluejays with six steals in the 67-47 win over Villanova on Feb. 28th. More than simply a spark off the bench, Saunders is the heart of Creighton's energy and defensive intensity.
Saunders tied the mark held Megan Neuvirth (vs. Davidson on Nov. 15, 1999) and Carli Tritz (vs. Drake on Dec. 31, 2011).
