Baseball Drops Nightcap to UNO, 8-1

Omaha, Neb. -- Playing its first doubleheader of the 2020 season, the Creighton Baseball team suffered an 8-1 loss to crosstown rival Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday, March 7th.
The loss dropped Creighton to 5-7 on the season, while UNO moved to 10-4 overall.
The Mavericks seized control of the game in the top of the second with six runs on six hits and two Bluejay errors. Creighton set the stage for UNO with a pair of errors and a walk to give the Mavericks a 2-0 edge. RBI doubles from UNO's Brett Bonar and Harrison Denk made it 4-0, then two more RBI knocks gave UNO the 6-0 edge.
Down 8-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Bluejays got on the board with a run on a one-out double from Josh Dudden and an RBI single off the bat of Cole Albers.
Creighton starter Ryan Windham took the loss (0-3), allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits and a walk in 1.2 innings. Maverick starter Richie Holetz earned the win (2-2) with six innings of scoreless ball. Holetz limited Creighton to just three hits and three walks, while striking out nine.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Sunday, March 8th as the Bluejays host Portland at 1:00pm (CT).
