10/12/2021 8:33:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Storrs, Conn. -- With just five matches remaining in the 2021 regular season, the Bluejays need only look to the 2020 season to see a formula to rally down the stretch to earn a bid to the BIG EAST Tournament. Last season Creighton opened BIG EAST play 0-3, then rattled off four consecutive victories to claim their first BIG EAST Tournament berth. A similar run will need to begin on Thursday at Connecticut.

Series History: First Meeting in 2021
Creighton and Connecticut will meet for the first time on Thursday, October 14th.
Scouting Connecticut (6-6-0, 2-3-0 BIG EAST)
The Huskies opened the season with four victories in their first six matches, but have gone 2-4-0 since. Connecticut's two BIG EAST wins came over Seton Hall (2-1 on September 30) and over Marquette (3-0 on October 7th).
Jaydah Bedoya and Jada Konte lead the Huskies with three goals, while Bedoya sits atop the points column with two assists for eight points.
Defensively Connecticut has split time in the net between Kaitlyn Mahoney (728 minutes) and MaryKate Ward (352 minutes). Mahoney leads the team with 45 saves and a 1.73 goals against average, while Ward has 18 saves and a 1.79 GAA.
Scouting Creighton (6-6-2, 0-4-1 BIG EAST)
The Bluejays broke an extended scoring drought by taking a lead at Villanova in the sixth minute, but Creighton has just two goals in five BIG EAST matches. Injuries have decimated the Bluejay attack as 10 players remain unavailable. That group includes captain Jordy Rothwell, Ansley Atkinson (who led the NCAA with nine assists when she went down) and Cristina Garriga.
Creighton's defense has kept the Bluejays in every contest, but injuries have taken a toll on this side of the ball as well. After limiting opponents to six goals in the first 12 matches, Creighton has allowed four goals in the last two contests. Â
Junior goalkeeper Keelan Terrell has six shutouts, 39 saves and is fourth in the conference with a 0.68 GAA.
Sophomore Abigail Santana guides the Bluejay offense with a team best seven goals. Santana, however, has been limited to one goal and one assist on four shots in five BIG EAST matches.
