Men's Soccer Cashes In Final Minute Goal, Earning 2-2 Draw at Connecticut

Mansfield, Conn. -- Down 2-1 in the final minute of regulation, freshman Jackson Castro sliced in a match-tying goal to force overtime. The Bluejays went on to earn a 2-2 draw with Connecticut on Saturday, October 16.
The draw moved Creighton to 4-6-2 on the season and 1-4-1 in BIG EAST action, while Connecticut closed the night 5-4-2 overall and 1-3-2 in conference play.
The Huskies drew first blood, slotting a goal into the back of the net in the 16th minute (15:08). Connecticut's goal came on a set piece as a foul approximately 35 yards out give the Huskies a free kick. Mateo Leveque lofted a pass into the box, where Ben Awashie headed it into the left side of the box.
Senior Diego Gutierrez took matters into his own hands in the 19th minute (18:41), working the ball from the endline to deliver a beautiful goal from 12-yards.
The game remained 1-1 into the 79th minute (78:58), when Connecticut converted a penalty kick to take 2-1 edge.
With just under one minute left in regulation, Castro intercepted a Connecticut pass just inside the box along the left side. Castro raced toward the goal, eluding the Huskies' goal keeper for the match-tying goal.
Connecticut out shot Creighton 15-13 in the match, while the Huskies held a 12-4 edge on corners.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 20 as the Bluejays host Xavier at 6:00 pm in Morrison Stadium.
