Chicago, Ill. -- The Creighton women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to DePaul on Thursday, October 21.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 7-8-2 on the season and 1-6-1 in BIG EAST play, while DePaul climbed to 7-9-0 overall and 4-4-0 in conference action.
Dreary weather and strong defensive efforts kept scoring chances to a minimum in the opening frame. DePaul took four shots in the first 45 minutes, while Creighton fired off two. The result was a scoreless match moving into the second half.
Play continued in the midfield throughout the opening 20 minutes of the second half as neither team connected on a shot.
Finally in the 77th minute (76:16) DePaul broke through to take the lead as Brooke Weitzel stole the ball in the Bluejays' defensive third. Weitzel seized the opportunity and the space to fire a shot from one-yard outside the box that sizzled past Creighton goalkeeper Keelan Terrell.
DePaul added an insurance goal in the 84th minute (83:38) as Kristin Boos sent a pass from Grace Phillpotts into the back of the net.
Terrell finished another brilliant performance with four saves, while DePaul Mollie Eriksson closed the match with one save.
The Bluejays return home for their final home match of the season on Sunday, October 24 against St. John's at 1:00 pm. Prior to the match seniors Cristina Garriga and Daphne Nierop will be honored for their respective contributions to the Creighton program.
