Creighton Extended Undefeated Streak to Four
Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton men's soccer team extended its late season push for a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Seton Hall on Saturday night at Morrison Stadium.
Creighton (6-6-2, 3-4-1) extended its unbeaten streak to four matches behind goals from Callum Watson, Manu Toledano and Diego Gutierrez while Paul Kruse turned away six Seton Hall shots.
The Bluejays' first goal came from Watson as he blistered a free kick into the top left corner of the net, beating the outstretched arms of Pirate goalkeeper Andreas Nota. Watson's tally came in the 40th minute (39:31).
Creighton added some insurance in the 83rd minute (82:48) as Toledano slid a shot into the bottom right corner, while Alejandro Maillet earned the assist.
With just over four minutes remaining in contest, Seton Hall climbed back within a goal thanks to CJ Tibbling in the 86th minute (85:47).
Less than a minute later Creighton's Diego Gutierrez put the match away by sliding a goal in from the left side. On the play Miguel Ventura picked up the assist, finding Gutierrez in open space.
A hotly contested match saw eight cards issued, three to the Bluejays and five to Seton Hall. Pirate Mattias Sundell earned the only red card of the match, going to the sidelines in the 78th minute (77:19).
Creighton closed the game with 10 shots, while Seton Hall had 14 shots. The Bluejays earned four corners, while Seton Hall collected six.
Creighton is off until Saturday's 6:00 pm (CT) when it visits Butler in a game with major conference tournament implications.
