Senior averaged 2.20 blocks per set
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball middle blocker Naomi Hickman was named the BIG EAST's Defensive Player of the Week after helping Bluejays to a pair of wins and a league-record eighth straight regular-season title.
Hickman averaged 2.20 blocks per set to key a Bluejay defense that held foes to 6.83 kills per set and a collective -.005 hitting in 192 swings.
The MVP of the 2020 BIG EAST Championship had three blocks and three kills on .250 hitting in a win on Friday vs. Seton Hall. Hickman then had a match-high and season-high eight blocks and added five kills and a dig to avenge an October loss to St. John's.
This is the third time in the fifth-year senior's career that she's been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, joining Sept. 4, 2018 and Nov. 25, 2019.
In addition, Norah Sis landed on the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 3.67 kills and 2.50 digs per set on .309 hitting.
Butler's Melody Davidson and Marquette's Jenna Reitsma was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively. It's just the second time in 13 weeks this fall that Creighton did not have the league's Freshman of the Week, as Sis (6) and Kendra Wait (5) had owned a stranglehold on the award.
Ranked 21st in last week's AVCA Top 25 poll, Creighton now turns its attention to the BIG EAST Championship, presented by JEEP. The top-seeded Bluejays will face fourth-seeded DePaul (19-11, 12-6 BIG EAST) on Friday at 3 p.m.
