Omaha, Neb. -- Carly Bachelor had a career-high 23 points and Creighton overcame a seven point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Arizona State 69-62 in a battle of top-50 NET teams on Sunday afternoon inside D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha.
Creighton improved to 6-0 at home and 6-2 overall (2-0 BIG EAST) this season while Arizona State dropped to 5-5.
The Bluejays controlled the first half as sophomore Emma Ronsiek scored the first seven points of the game and CU led 16-9 after one quarter. Bachelor scored eight points in the second quarter as the Bluejays maintained their seven point edge and took a 29-22 lead into the break.
An 11-0 run early in the third quarter helped ASU take its first lead of the afternoon at 33-32 on a free throw line jumper from Jayde Van Hyfte. The Bluejays answered with three-pointers by Molly Mogensen and Morgan Maly before the Sun Devils uncorked a 7-0 burst to own a 44-39 advantage. Jade Loville beat multiple defenders in the final seconds of the quarter to give ASU a 46-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Creighton fell behind 48-41 after the opening possession of the final frame before embarking on an 13-2 run to regain a 54-50 lead and never looked back. Bachelor had eight of those points while Tatum Rembao added the other five. The Sun Devils answered with a bucket before a Ronsiek bucket and a pair of free throws by Rachael Saunders put the Bluejays up 58-52. ASU would get no closer than four points the rest of the day.
The Bluejays put the game away on Mogensen's left-handed hook shot with 35 seconds left that gave the hosts a 64-58 advantage. Jaddan Simmons got ASU within four at 64-60 with 28 seconds left before Mogensen hit nothing but the bottom of the net on a pair of free throws. Ronsiek and Mogensen sank additional free throws down the stretch to ice the win, as CU outscored ASU 18-6 at the line for the afternoon.
Bachelor's 23 points eclipsed her previous best of 20 done in last year's WNIT victory vs. Bowling Green as the junior made 9-of-11 field goal attempts. Ronsiek (15) and Mogensen (10) also scored in double-digits. The Bluejays made 18-of-22 free throws on the afternoon.
ASU was paced by 18 points from Mael Gilles, while Simmons had 14 and Loville contributed 15 points.
