Bluejays and Bears contended with each other and strong winds at the Swope Soccer Village
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Creighton men's soccer team fell to No. 19 Missouri State, 2-0, in a neutral site match on Wednesday afternoon at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Bluejays dropped to 2-2 this season, while the Bears improved to 3-0.
The two teams not only competed against each other, but both sides also dealt with strong and gusty south winds.
With the wind at its back in the first half, Missouri State dominated possession. The Bears had 14 corner kicks and eight shots during the opening 45 minutes, while the Bluejays launched only one shot and did not attempt a corner.
Creighton freshman goalkeeper Nathan Schnur tallied six saves in the first half, including one on a penalty kick attempt during the closing moments.
The Bluejays hoped to take advantage of the wind after the break, but the Bears continued to control the ball and broke the 0-0 tie with a goal during the 51st minute on their 15th corner kick of the afternoon.Â
Missouri State extended its lead to two goals by finding the back of the net for a second time during the 70th minute.Â
Creighton managed five shot attempts in the second half after only one in the first, but the Bears countered with 10 and ended the match with an 18-6 edge in shots, including 11-3 in shots on goal.
Schnur tallied nine saves during Wednesday's match, the most by a Bluejay goalkeeper since Paul Kruse had nine against Georgetown to close the 2019 regular season.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Saturday in Chicago for a BIG EAST match against DePaul. Kickoff between the Bluejays and Blue Demons at Wish Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
