2020 Season Played in 2021
The global pandemic brought on by the Covid-19 Virus, forced the NCAA to push the soccer national championship tournament from the fall of 2020 to the spring of 2021. Despite the movement of the culminating tournament, the NCAA still recognizes this as the 2020 season. One of the reasons it will remain the 2020 season is the plan to return to the fall in 2021.
Scouting Xavier
After reaching the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, the Musketeers have struggled this season to a 2-4-0 record entering the match on Thursday.
Since beating the Bluejays on March 7, Xavier fell to Butler 4-0 (March 14) and at Marquette (3-1) on March 18.
The critical issue has been a lack of offense as Xavier has just four goals in six matches this season. The Musketeers have yet to find the back of the net more than once in a match this season.
Xavier's four goals have come from four different players. The Musketeers' leading scorer is Grace Blumfeldt with three points on a goal and an assist.
In net Olivia Jenkins has started all six matches, allowing 12 goals.
Scouting Iowa State
The Cyclones have the advantage of having played the bulk of their schedule in the fall. Iowa State enters the match on Sunday with a 2-6-4 record. During the spring the Cyclones are 0-0-3, posting draws with Northern Iowa, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Iowa State will close its season on April 10 against Kansas State on the road. The match with the Bluejays is likely to serve as Iowa State's senior day.
Heinrich Notches Second Multi-Goal Match
Sophomore Skylar Heinrich recorded her second career multi-goal match, scoring two in Creighton's 3-0 win over Marquette on March 21.
The last time Heinrich tallied more than one goal in a contest was on Sept. 8. In that contest Heinrich delivered four goals.
Her effort against Marquette garnered a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday, March 22.
Grocki Shines in Spot Start, Delivering Shutout
Redshirt freshman Mikayla Grocki was shifted into a starting role less than 40 minutes prior to the match on Sunday, March 22. Grocki was pushed into service by an injury to Keelan Terrell.
Grocki stepped in and delivered a shutout victory, saving the only shot on frame.
Creighton's 3-0 Win Over Marquette, Largest Conference Win Since 2016
The 3-0 win over Marquette is the third largest conference win under head coach Ross Paule. The only other time under Paule that the Bluejays posted more decisive wins came in 2016.
