Baseball Settles for Series Win Over Mavericks, Dropping Finale 5-2

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton Baseball team dropped the series finale to Nebraska-Omaha 5-2 on Sunday, March 7, setting for a series win over the Mavericks.
The loss moved Creighton to 4-3 on the season, while UNO improved to 4-5 overall.
The Bluejays took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame as sophomore Andrew Meggs laced a one-out single to center, moved to second as freshman Alan Roden was hit by a pitch. Meggs came around to score with two down in the inning via an RBI single to left from sophomore Sterling Hayes.
The bottom half of the first, however, saw UNO take advantage of two walks, a single and a hit batter by Bluejay starter Ryan Miller. The Mavericks went on to plate three in the inning with just one hit.
UNO added single runs int he fourth and seventh to build a 5-1 edge.
Creighton's final tally of the day came in the ninth inning. Senior Ryan Mantle laced a double to left field, then senior Dax Roper rocketed an RBI single up the middle.
Miller took the loss (0-1), allowing three runs without retiring a batter. Maverick starter Richie Holetz earned the win (1-0), limiting Creighton to one run on five hits and two walks in six innings.
Offensively Roper guided Creighton, finishing 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Meggs finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Creighton will open its home schedule on Friday, March 13 in TD Ameritrade Park Omaha against South Dakota State at 6:30 pm.
