Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat in its BIG EAST opening game against Xavier on Sunday, March 7 at Morrison Stadium.
The loss moved Creighton to 0-2-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in BIG EAST play, while Xavier climbed to 2-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.
The lone goal of the match came on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute as Creighton was whistled for a foul inside the box. Xavier's Molly McLaughlin collected the goal, finding the back of the net.
Creighton out shot the Musketeers 9-8 in the match, while Xavier held a 6-4 edge in corners.
Bluejay goalkeeper Keelan Terrell and Xavier's Olivia Jenkins each finished with two saves.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, March 14 at DePaul for a 1:00 pm start.
