Kardovic Earns First Team to Highlight Individual Awards
Omaha, Neb. -- Head coach Ross Paule and the Creighton women's staff collected the BIG EAST's top honor on Thursday, April 15 as the conference announced its annual awards. Assistant coaches Lisa-Marie Woods and Karli Kopietz earned the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honor.
In addition, a quartet of Bluejay individuals earned accolades as sophomore Aida Kardovic was named to the BIG EAST First Team, junior Ansley Atkinson and sophomore Skylar Heinrich collected a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team and freshman Maddie Radke was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.
Paule's sixth season at the Bluejay helm yielded Creighton's first BIG EAST Championship bid. Picked to finish last in the Midwest Division, the Bluejays claimed runner-up honors with a 4-4-0 record, which included wins over the top two teams in the division's preseason poll – DePaul and reigning BIG EAST Champion Xavier. Creighton also swept Marquette during the regular season to clinch the postseason berth.
Kardovic and Atkinson enter the BIG EAST Championship as Creighton's points leaders. Each Bluejay has delivered three goals and an assist this season (seven point). Heinrich is just a small step back with two goals and one assist (five points). Heinrich and Atkinson are two of the Bluejay's top three in minutes played this season with with 757 minutes (Heinrich) and 744 minutes (Atkinson) respectively.
Radke has made an immediate impact on the back line for Creighton, helping the defense post a pair of shutouts and allow just 12 goals in nine matches. Starting every match this season, she has logged 652 minutes and dished out a pair of assists.
