Women's Soccer Opens BIG EAST Championship Against #10 Georgetown
4/16/2021 12:58:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Providence, R.I. -- The Creighton women's soccer team gets its first chance to play in the BIG EAST Championship as the Bluejays battle #10 Georgetown in the opening semifinal on Friday, April 16 at 1:00 pm (CT).
For the first time since joining the BIG EAST Conference in 2013, the Bluejay women's soccer team earned a spot in the BIG EAST Championship.
From 2013-19 the conference tournament took the top six teams in conference, but 2020 brought a new challenge. Just four teams were going to Providence, Rhode Island for a shot at the title.
Things looked very bleak following a 4-0 home loss to Butler on March 18. Creighton was 0-4-0 on the season, 0-3-0 in BIG EAST play. Yet in the post game discussion, the Creighton coaching staff urged their squad to remain focussed. Head coach Ross Paule as well as assistants Lisa-Marie Woods and Karli Kopietz went a step further, reminding their team that the season was far from over and how close they were.
That speech sparked a four-match winning streak that led Creighton to Rhode Island and a first round matchup with #10 Georgetown.
