Gabby Tremblay ties for second place
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Gabby Tremblay tied for second place as the Creighton women's golf team took third on Sunday in Fort Myers, Fla. The performance ranks as Creighton's best team finish at a conference tournament in 29 seasons under Debbie Conry.
A second-year freshman from Hayward, Wis., Tremblay closed the tournament on Sunday with a 73 to match her season-low that she also shot in Friday's first round. She had four birdies in her final round and nine overall in the tournament en route to matching CU's best performance in a league tournament since Elizabeth Morell was a runner-up in the 2003 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Tremblay led all players in the event by shooting 1-under on par 3's throughout the event.
Tremblay's finishes her season with a team-leading 78.53 scoring average, and a pair of top-five finishes. By virtue of her top-five placing at the league championship, Tremblay was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Katie Allen was the first-round leader after a career-low 71 and wound up in eighth place after consecutive 78's on the weekend. It's her second career top-10 finish at the BIG EAST Championship after leading all freshmen in 2019 with a 10th-place showing. Allen finished the year with a 79.33 scoring average to trail only Tremblay amongst Bluejays.
True freshman Katie Berrian tied for 15th place with a 233 total. Following back-to-back season-best rounds of 76, Berrian completed a circuit of 81 on Sunday. Berrian's 36 pars throughout the event were one off the overall leader.
Margaret Hickey shot a 79 in the final round of her college career for a 236 aggregate. She tied for 22nd place, her best career finish at the BIG EAST Championships.
Closing out the Bluejay contingent was Claire Orcutt, who placed 24th following rounds of 75, 79 and 83. Her 237 total was two shots shy of a season-best 54-hole tourney total.
Xavier won the tournament after a final round 295 gave it an 891 aggregate. That was 13 shots better than Seton Hall, which fired the low round of the tournament (294) on Sunday. The Pirates edged CU by nine shots for second with a 904 total. Six teams and 30 players competed in the event. Xavier's Morgan Tinsley earned medalist honors by three shots following loops of 72, 76 and 73. It was her first top-10 finish of the season and a marked improvement for a senior who had placed 89th of 98 just one week earlier at the Indiana Invitational.
The Club at Gateway in Fort Myers, Fla., a par 72 track that measured 6,072 yards, hosted the event.
Creighton will return the majority of its roster in the fall, losing only Hickey and Amelia Lee to graduation from this spring's squad.
