Bluejay Baseball Opens Series with St. John's on Friday

Omaha, Neb. -- A battle of typical BIG EAST Titans begins on Friday as the Bluejays face St. John's in the first of a four-game series at 6:30 pm. Creighton and St. John's have claimed five of the six regular season championships since the BIG EAST was realigned prior to the 2014 season. The Bluejays took the title in 2014, 2017 and 2019. The Red Storm claim the championship in 2015 and 2018, while Xavier was the title in 2017.

Scouting the Red Storm (2021: 13-12, 4-7 BIG EAST)
Entering the weekend at 4-7, the Red Storm have more than struggled out of the gate. St. John's dropped series to Xavier and Georgetown, then split a four-game set with Seton Hall last weekend.
St. John's is hitting .242 as a team, led by Ryan Hogan's .290 and .270 from Carson Bartels.
The strength of the Red Storm team was expected to be on the mound and ace Nick Mondak has met that standard with a 1.93 ERA over 42.0 innings. Closer Ethan Routzahn has equally been stellar with the same 1.93 ERA over 14.0 innings. In spite of those two shining stars, the Red Storm have a team ERA of 5.19.

The Bluejays pushed their winning streak to 10 games, before dropping a season finale at Georgetown.
On the mound Creighton has a 3.70 ERA as a team, dropping more than 2.1 since it was 5.81 on March 21. Dueling aces Dylan Tebrake and Jonah Smith have guided the pitching staff's improvement. Tebrake and Smith are a combined 6-0 with a pair of complete games over the last 11 games. The duo have tossed 49.2 of 96.2 innings, notching 52 strikeouts and walking just 13.
At the plate the Bluejays are hitting .278 as a team, led by five regulars over .300. Pacing Creighton are freshman Alan Roden (.353), sophomores Andrew Meggs (.345) and Sterling Hayes (.327), freshman Nolan Clifford (.321) and

After falling to second last week, freshman Alan Roden returned to the top spot in the NCAA for RBI per game. Roden has 35 RBI in the Bluejays' first 22 games, 1.59 per game.
Roden also ranks in the top 50 in the NCAA in doubles per game (2nd with 0.55), home runs per game (40th with 0.32) and slugging percentage (13th at .741).
