Women's Soccer Posts 2-0 Shutout Win Over Drake

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team delivered one goal in each frame to dispose of Drake, 2-0, on Sunday, Aug. 22.
With the win the Bluejays moved to 2-0-0 on the season, while Drake fell to 0-1-1.
Creighton return to the pitch on Thursday, Aug. 26 as the Bluejays face their first road match at Tulsa. The contest will be available on ESPN+ with an 8:00 pm kickoff.
The Bluejays took a 1-0 lead by taking advantage of a Drake miscue. Sophomore Renée Pountney and junior Cristina Garriga took advantage of a slowly played pass back to goalkeeper Kelsie Stone, Pountney charged the ball to force Stone to pop the ball up. Garriga took advantage by lofting a shot from 40 yards away just inside the goal.
Creighton added to its advantage early in the second half as freshman Maddie Radke found fellow freshman Abigail Santana in space along the right side of the box. The Iowa native beat a pair of defenders for a open look against Stone. Santana's shot beat Stone, giving her two goals in two matches.
The Bluejays out paced the Bulldogs offensively with 22 shots to just eight for Drake. Creighton also held the advantage on corners, 8-2.
