Paul Kruse tallied seven saves on Sunday afternoon
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Creighton men's soccer team dropped a Sunday afternoon match on the road against Saint Louis, 4-0, at Hermann Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Bluejays moved their season record to 0-2-0, while the Billikens improved to 2-0-0.
Saint Louis found the back of the net twice during the first half of action. The Billikens opened the scoring during the 25th minute after a failed clearance following a corner kick and added to its advantage with a looping pass from the midfield towards the Bluejays' defensive half and a one-on-one situation won by a SLU attacker in the 33rd minute.
The home team on the scoreboard controlled the possession throughout the opening 45 minutes with a 12-1 edge in shots and 9-1 advantage in corners. Creighton co-captain Paul Kruse made six saves before the halftime break, including one in the 43rd minute on a penalty kick attempt.
The host Billikens added to their lead in 57th minute and scored the final goal of the match during the 80th.
Saint Louis ended the match with a 22-6 edge in shots -- including 11-2 on goal -- and a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Callum Watson recorded both of the Bluejays' shots on goal against the Billikens, while Kruse ended the day with seven saves.
Creighton returns to action next weekend for the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington, Indiana. The Bluejays will face nationally-ranked and 2020 national runner-up Indiana on Friday at 7 p.m. before playing a neutral site contest against Ohio State on Sept. 6 at 4 p.m.
