Women's Soccer Opens BIG EAST Action With No. 25 Georgetown

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team opens the 2021 BIG EAST slate on Thursday, September 23rd against No. 25 Georgetown at 7:00 pm in Morrison Stadium.

Series History: Bluejays trail Hoyas, 0-6-2
Georgetown and Creighton will meet for the ninth time on September 23rd, the fourth contest to come in Morrison Stadium. The Hoyas have earned the better of the matchups, claiming six contest. The other two battles ended in a draw. Creighton's level of competition with the BIG EAST's best team has been strong, forcing overtime in three of the last four battles.

Scouting Georgetown (4-0-4)
Picked to win the BIG EAST in the preseason coaches poll, Georgetown has yet to suffer a loss. The Hoyas have allowed all of four goals in eight matches, while scoring 15. Georgetown is 2-0-1 on the road this season.
Offensively the Hoyas are led by Gia Vicari with five goals and 11 points, while Maya Fernandez-Powell and Cyanne Doyle both have two goals.
Goalkeeper Allie Augur has started every match, making 27 saves in eight matches. The Hoyas' defense has allowed 66 shots this season.
Scouting Creighton (6-2-1)
The Bluejays' calling card throughout the non-conference season has been defense. Creighton held opponents out of the goal for over 500 minutes, yielding just three goals total in nine matches. Unfortunately the Bluejays dropped two matches by a 1-0 tally.
On offense sophomore Abigail Santana has a team best six goals, but the Bluejays will need to account for the loss of assist leader Ansley Atkinson (ACL) and goal scorer Cristina Garriga (ACL).
Junior goalkeeper Keelan Terrell saw her scoreless streak end at 508 minutes (507:38) snapped by at Iowa State on Thursday, September 16. Terrell remains the NCAA leader this season with six shutouts this season.
BIG EAST Openers
Entering its ninth season in the BIG EAST, the Bluejays are 3-5-0 in BIG EAST openers and 3-5-0 in conference home openers. Thursday marks the sixth time in nine seasons that Creighton begins BIG EAST play at Morrison Stadium. Under head coach Ross Paule, the Bluejays are 3-3-0 in the BIG EAST opening match.
Creighton Looking For First Win Over Ranked Opponent Under Paule
Creighton has faced ranked opposition 19 times, overall the Bluejays are 1-15-3. Since current head coach Ross Paule took the helm in 2015, Creighton is 0-5-2 against ranked opponents.

Terrell's Scoreless Streak Ends at 508 minutes
Junior goalkeeper Keelan Terrell's scoreless streak came to a close on Thursday, September 16 at 508 minutes (507:38). Terrell set the Creighton record for scoreless streak, passing the mark of 392:23 held by Alicia Montgomery during the 2009 season.
Atkinson and Garriga Both Suffer Season Ending Injuries
Creighton's matches with Kansas City (September 12) and Iowa State (September 16) came with a hefty cost. While the Bluejays went 1-1 on the scoreboard, Creighton lost seniors Cristina Garriga (at Kansas City) and Ansley Atkinson (at Iowa State) to season-ending ACL injuries in the process.
