Jordy Rothwell Earns Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Abigail Santana Picks Up Spot on Weekly Honor Roll
Omaha, Neb. -- The efforts of the Creighton women's soccer defensive back line were rewarded on Monday, September 6th as team captain Jordy Rothwell collected the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week nod. Meanwhile sophomore teammate Abigail Santana earned a spot on the conference's weekly honor roll.
Creighton's captain guided the Bluejays to an impressive weekend, posting a pair of shutouts and allowing just five shots in two matches. Rothwell and the back line did not allow a shot to South Dakota in a 0-0 draw on Thursday and did not yield a shot to South Dakota State until the 44th minute on Sunday. In all Creighton held its neighbors to the north without a shot for the first 153:49 of action this week.
Santana delivered a pair of goals in the Bluejays' 3-0 win over South Dakota State on Sunday, giving her four on the season. She gave Creighton the lead in the 48th minute, then added some insurance with a goal in the 90th minute.
The BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week went to Providence's Meg Hughes with three goals and an assist in a pair of victories. The Goalkeeper of the Week honor went to Connecticut's Kaitlyn Mahoney with a four-save shutout win over Albany, while Emily Martin of Butler earned the Freshman of the Week with five saves in two matches as the Bulldogs went 2-0-0.
Rothwell, Santana and the rest of the Bluejays return to the pitch on Thursday, September 9th as Creighton hosts North Dakota State at 7:00 pm.
