Creighton Dance Team Selection and Criteria

A panel of unbiased judges will score candidates based on the criteria below to help select members for the Creighton Dance Team. Note, that these are REQUIRED skills and are subject to change.

Technique

Leaps and Stationary Jumps

Center and straight leg leaps
Toe touches, scorpions, tilt jumps

Turning Jumps

Disks, calypsos, Firebirds (required)

Turns

Triple/Quad pirouette turns
Leg turns
A la seconds, turning combinations

Tumbling and Tricks

Head Springs (required)
Kip Ups (required)
Right or Left Aerials (bonus)
Tumbling passes (bonus)

Flexibility

Ability to demonstrate proper alignment in addition to range and height
Leg holds (side/front)
Front, side, back attitude, tilts

Fitness/Endurance

Sufficient physical fitness to perform technique criteria listed above

Traditions

Fight Song: Candidates will be judged on knowing/singing the words to the "White and Blue" fight song as well as choreography.
Other traditions include HORSE and HEY, of which choreography will be provided

Personality and Integrity

Besides a strong technical background and a mature quality of movement, we look for well-rounded individuals. We search for those who are able to conduct themselves professionally. Members of the Dance Team frequently engage in conversations with alumni, university employees, donors, and fans. Team members also have strong academic success! Our team culture and familial atmosphere are vital to the team's success, therefore a team-oriented individual is also important.

Each candidate will participate in a One-on-One interview as part of the selection process.

Qualifications

Dancers who wish to audition for the Creighton Dance Team must meet the following minimum qualifications:

Proof of Admission
Full commitment to attending Creighton University (preferred)
Overall GPA of 2.0 or above
Not be on disciplinary or academic probation.
Medical insurance comparable to the minimum coverage offered through the University's student insurance program
