Omaha, Neb. -- In his 19th season at the helm for Creighton Baseball head coach Ed Servais knows how to take advantage of opportunity. The warm close to January provided just the chance for the Bluejays to get outside on the first official day of the 2022 season on Friday, January 28. Continuing to seize the moment the Bluejays got a scrimmage in on Saturday, January 29 and were back outside once more on Monday, January 31.
Servais and the Bluejays hope to capitalize on the opportunity presented during the 2022 season as well. A pair of veteran leaders guide the Bluejays as the reigning 2021 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and 2022 Preseason BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year Dylan Tebrake will anchor the Creighton rotation. In the field the Bluejays have the 2022 Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year Alan Roden, who also claimed the 2021 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
As team the Bluejays were picked to finish second in the BIG EAST's preseaon poll.
Tebrake closed last season 8-0 with a 2.72 ERA. He tossed 72.2 innings over 12 starts, notching 75 strikeouts and walking 24. In BIG EAST action Tebrake was 5-0 with a 1.52 ERA in 41.1 innings. Tebrake limited BIG EAST opponents to an impressive .171 average, while allowing just .220 overall.
Roden delivered a .378 batting average last season, with nine home runs, 17 doubles and 47 RBI in 39 games. The Wisconsin native was almost unstoppable in conference play, hitting .421 with nine doubles, five home runs and 26 RBI in 21 games.
Creighton opens the 2022 season at Portland from Feb. 18-20.
