Storrs, Conn. -- The Creighton women's basketball team pushed No. 11 Connecticut to the end in Storrs, delivering #11 Connecticut's closest game since rejoining the BIG EAST last season, but ultimately fell 63-55 on Sunday, January 9.
The loss moved Creighton to 10-4 on the season and 5-1 in BIG EAST play, while Connecticut moved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference contests.
The Bluejays took early advantages of 2-0 and 4-2 behind buckets from senior Payton Brotzki, but the Huskies claimed the lead at 5-4 via a trey from Christyn Williams (7:24). Down 17-9 with 2:19 remaining, the Bluejays found sophomore Mallory Brake open for uncontested layups to cut the deficit to 17-13 and went to the second down 21-15.
The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle as the Huskies stretched their edge to 10 (27-17), then Creighton responded with buckets by Brotzki and sophomore Emma Ronsiek. Down 32-23 with 3:49 remaining, sophomore Morgan Maly splashed a pair from beyond the arc to make it 33-29 (2:50).
