Bluejays move into first place in the BIG EAST
OMAHA, Neb. -- No. 21 Creighton Volleyball moved into sole possession of first place in the BIG EAST Conference with a 3-2 reverse sweep victory over No. 16 Marquette on Friday night in front of 2,054 fans at D.J. Sokol Arena. Scores of the match in favor of Creighton were 21-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 15-8.Â
Sophomore Norah Sis had a match-high 21 kills and freshman Ava Martin added season-highs with 18 kills and 12 digs as the Bluejays completed their second win from down 0-2 in as many Friday's.

The win moves Creighton to 15-3 overall and 7-0 in BIG EAST play, taking sole possession of first place in the league standings. Marquette had a 13-match win streak snapped and fell to 15-2 on the year and 6-1 in league play. The Bluejays have now won 20 of the last 22 meetings against their league rival, and are 6-0 all-time in five set matches against MU.
Marquette controlled the first two sets of the match. The Golden Eagles hit .317 in the opener and got five kills from Hattie Bray and nine digs by Carly Skrabak to earn a 25-21 victory. MU led most of the second set, hitting.325 as Carsen Murray had four kills in five swings of a 25-22 victory.
Creighton's only deficit the rest of the match came when MU took a 1-0 lead to open the third set on a kill from Murray. The Jays responded with a 7-2 run to force an early timeout from MU coach Ryan Theis. The lead grew to 13-7, only to see Marquette use a 6-0 run to knot the score at 13 after three straight Bluejay attack errors. With the score tied at 17-all, the Bluejays used a 5-0 run on Allison Whitten's serve, and the seventh kill of the set from Martin closed out the 25-19 set victory. CU's third set featured 21 kills and four blocks, with Sis also contributing seven putaways.
The Bluejays blitzed MU with a 9-1 run to open the fourth set and were never challenged. Creighton got 18 kills on .311 hitting, including five terminations by Martin, as Kendra Wait dished 16 assists. Keeley Davis had eight of her career-high 26 digs in the game.
CU scored the first three points of the fifth set and stretched the lead to 8-2 after a block from Kiara Reinhardt and Wait. The Golden Eagles closed within 8-6 but would not get any closer, as CU closed out the match on a 4-0 run on Whitten's serve. Sis had three kills and Wait added six assists and an ace in the clincher as the Bluejays held MU's top-ranked offense to .000 hitting in the fifth set.
Four Bluejays finished with a double-double. Sis had 21 kills and 11 digs while serving an ace for the seventh straight contest. Martin compiled her first career double-double with season-highs of 18 kills and 12 digs. Davis owned 11 kills and 26 digs while Wait was just a kill off her first career triple-double with 59 assists, 18 digs and nine kills on .400 hitting. Wisconsin native Kiana Schmitt owned 11 kills and five blocks on .476 hitting, while Whitten dug 21 balls. Creighton finished with 78 kills, six aces, 98 digs and 10.0 blocks on .275 hitting.
Marquette was paced by 13 kills each from Jenna Reitsma and Aubrey Hamilton, while Murray had nine kills, six blocks and hit .412. Skrabak had a match-high 28 digs and former Iowa Western setter Yadhira Anchante owned 47 assists and 16 digs. The Golden Eagles had 59 kills, 85 digs, three aces, six blocks and hit .207.
