Creighton hits to win 11th consecutive match.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The No. 15 Creighton Volleyball team swept its 13th straight meeting against Seton Hall in a decisive 25-16, 25-16, 25-11 win over the Pirates in South Orange, N.J., on Friday evening. Creighton never trailed in the match and has now won 41 straight sets over Seton Hall.
Creighton's 11th straight win improved the Bluejays to 19-3 and 11-0 in the BIG EAST Conference, while Seton Hall dropped to 13-10 overall and is 4-7 in league play.
"Obviously it's great to get a road sweep," said head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth. "I think all three sets we just had some significant serving runs that allowed things to open up. Overall a good night."
Creighton never trailed in the opening frame, a 25-16 victory. The teams traded four straight sideouts before Keeley Davis unleashed a 12-0 serving run that featured a pair of aces. Davis finished the set with three aces and 12 digs while fellow senior Kiana Schmitt had seven kills in 10 swings. Kendra Wait collected 12 assists and the Jays cleaned up 26 digs to limit the Pirates to .132 hitting.
After the Bluejays bolted to an 8-2 lead in the second set, The Hall bounced back to tie the score at 9-all. That tie would be short-lived as Ava Martin had a kill, then combined with Kiara Reinhardt on a block two points later to force a Seton Hall timeout. CU would not be threatened again as it posted a second consecutive 25-16 victory. Norah Sis had five kills and four digs while Wait dished 13 assists and upped five digs.
Creighton used a 10-0 run on Sky McCune's serve in the third set to bolt to a 16-2 lead and cruise to victory. Nine different Bluejays had at least one kill in the set as CU hit .464 and held the Pirates to -.045 hitting.
Sis led CU with 13 kills and Wait approached a triple-double with 34 assists, 11 digs and six kills. Schmitt hit .533 with 10 kills in 15 swings. Creighton had 47 kills, seven aces, 57 digs and four blocks on .321 hitting.
Seton Hall was led by five kills each from Laila Wallace and Jenna Walsh and 11 digs by Jennifer Giron. The Pirates hit .081 and had 22 kills, four aces, 38 digs and three blocks in the contest.
Creighton returns to the court on Sunday at Noon CST when it visits St. John's.
"We're excited for it," said Booth of the Sunday's match-up against the third-place Red Storm. "I told the team that this will be the best of the four teams that we've played on the road and to look at it as fun. We love playing good teams. Don't look at it as pressure. Let's just go and play great volleyball and expect a battle. Hopefully we'll play some good volleyball."
