Scouting Creighton (8-4-6)
As the BIG EAST bracket lined up on the final day of the regular season, the Bluejay squad liked its matchups. An opening round road match at Xavier, followed by a meeting with Seton Hall offered a change to right two matches the Bluejays felt slipped through their fingers.
During the regular season Creighton fell at Xavier 3-1, despite controlling possession and out shooting the Musketeers 21-6. The Bluejays' 2-1 road win at Xavier moved Creighton on to face Seton Hall. In the first matchup with the Pirates, the Bluejays held a 1-0 lead into the 90th minute before a penalty kick allowed Seton Hall to escape with a 1-1 draw. Creighton took out its furry with a 6-0 win in the BIG EAST Semifinal.
Creighton's final checklist item will be the toughest as a missed penalty kick helped Georgetown post a 2-1 over the Bluejays earlier this season.
Junior Duncan McGuire scored four goals in the win over the Pirates, the first four goals of the contest. As a whole the Bluejays offense is second highest scoring in the nation (2.78 GPG), second to Charlotte (2.94 GPG). The rout of Seton Hall on Thursday was the fourth time Creighton has put six shots past an opponent (Oakland, Rutgers, Omaha).
Paul Kruse has been a steady force between the posts this season. Kruse notched his 15th career shutout in the win over the Pirates. The German native has 51 saves this season and a 1.46 GAA.
