OMAHA, Neb. - Nine Creighton University teams posted perfect Graduation Success Rates and all 14 Bluejay programs performed at 82 percent or higher according to figures released by the NCAA. Creighton had an overall GSR score of 95 percent, which was tied for 50th-best nationally.
The GSR data shows the percentage of student-athletes receiving athletics aid and earning a degree within six years of entering college. The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation provides a more accurate appraisal of student-athlete success. The 2022 GSR numbers are based on freshmen who matriculated in 2015 and transfers who matriculated between 2012 and 2015.
The federal graduation rate remains the only measure to compare student-athletes with the general student body. Using this measure, student-athletes nationwide graduate at the same rate as the student body – 69 percent. Creighton's federal graduation rate among student-athletes stands at 72 percent.
Creighton turned in a perfect GSR score of 100 percent in volleyball, women's tennis, women's soccer, women's golf, rowing, women's basketball, men's tennis, men's golf and men's cross country. It's the 18th straight year with a perfect GSR score for men's golf, women's golf, women's tennis and women's basketball, and the seventh straight reporting period that men's tennis has earned a perfect score.
Nationally, 90 percent of student-athletes who started college in 2015 earned degrees. That figure is 12 percent better than just 12 years ago and far better than the 74 percent mark when GSR tracking started in 2002. All 11 BIG EAST schools achieved an overall GSR of 90 percent or better.
"Student-athletes continue to make impressive achievements in the classroom," said Dave Schnase, NCAA vice president of academic and membership affairs. "Student-athletes have demonstrated an incredible commitment to academic success while pursuing their sport at the Division I level. Member schools should be proud for creating meaningful, enriching and educational experiences that help our student-athletes graduate and set a course for long-term success."
Creighton is one of 21 schools with a GSR score of 95 percent or better in each of the last nine cycles, joining Belmont, Brown, Bucknell, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Davidson, Duke, Gonzaga, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Loyola (Md.), Northwestern, Notre Dame, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Stanford and Yale.
