Fredrick King Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton center Fredrick King has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after posting a pair of double-doubles last week.

King averaged 16.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocked shots in two games last week while shooting 84.2 percent (16-19) from the field.

The Mangrove Cay, Andros, Bahamas, product had career-highs with 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots in Monday's game vs. a 10-1 Arizona State team, making 8-of-11 field goal attempts in his second career start. He's just the seventh freshman nationally with a 16/11/5 line and no turnovers since 2010.

On Friday, King had 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots in his BIG EAST debut at Marquette. King made all eight of his field goal attempts, including seven dunks, while becoming Creighton's first freshman with consecutive double-doubles since Doug McDermott in 2011.

Creighton opens a three-game homestand on Thursday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Butler.
