Bluejay Women's Hoops Falls to #2 Stanford, 72-59

Palo Alto, Calif. -- The 21st ranked Creighton Women's Basketball team battled hard, yet dropped a 72-59 decision to #2 Stanford on Tuesday, December 20.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 8-3 on the season, while the Cardinal climbed to 12-1 overall.
Stanford took control of the game early in the opening quarter as freshman point guard Talana Lepolo knocked town a trio from beyond the arc. The Cardinal went on to hit 11-of-18 (61.1%) shots from the field in the first 10 minutes, while Creighton opened the game 4-of-14 (28.6%). As a result the Bluejays trailed 27-10 heading to the second.
Creighton clawed back into the game, cutting the deficit to as little as 12 four different times in the frame. Juniors Emma Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Jayme Horan (Omaha, Neb.) guided the Bluejay charge with five points in the frame, including a trey from each.
Coming out of halftime Stanford reasserted its hold on the game, holding Creighton to eight points in the quarter to extend its advantage to as much as 22 at 58-36 (1:50).
Down 63-41 early in the fourth (8:30), the Bluejays found their rhythm, closing within 11 at 68-57 with 3:08 remaining. This time it juniors Lauren Jensen (Lakeville, Minn) and Morgan Maly (Crete, Neb.) with a combined 13 points to lead the charge. Stanford, however, turned held Creighton at bay to claim the contest.
Jensen led Creighton with 18 points, while Ronsiek finished with 11. Stanford got 17 points from Lepolo, while Haley Jones and Cameron Brink delivered 16 and 14 points respectively.
Creighton returns to action on Wednesday, December 28 as the Bluejays host #9 Connecticut in D.J. Sokol Arena at 6:00 p.m.
