Men's Basketball Races Past Georgetown, 80-66

Double-doubles from Ryan Kalkbrenner and Ryan Hawkins pace CU
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Ryan Hawkins and Ryan Kalkbrenner combined for 52 points and 27 rebounds, and Creighton threw down nine dunks as a team in an 80-66 victory at Georgetown on Saturday, Feb. 12.
The Bluejays improved to 15-8 on the season and 7-5 in BIG EAST play, while Georgetown dropped its 13th consecutive game to fall to 6-17 overall and 0-12 in league action.
Behind a combined 32 points from Hawkins (19) and Kalkbrenner (13), the Bluejays raced to a 42-37 halftime lead. Hawkins made five three-pointers, while Kalkbrenner had five dunks in the opening stanza. CU's offense assisted 14-of-17 baskets as the Bluejays shot 53.1 percent from the field and owned a 22-11 lead on the glass.
Kaiden Rice had 12 points in 11 minutes off the bench to pace the Hoyas at halftime.
A three-pointer from Alex O'Connell and basket by Kalkbrenner gave CU its first double-figure margin at 47-37 of the afternoon, and a 10-0 burst featuring three-pointers from KeyShawn Feazell, Trey Alexander and Hawkins, an alley-oop to Feazell as well as a free throw by Rati Andronikashvili extended CU's advantage to 62-46.
GU embarked on a 9-0 run to get within 64-57 before Hawkins went back to work. The sixth-year senior buried back-to-back triples and Kalkbrenner's lay-up made it 72-59.
Hawkins finished with 30 points and 12 rebounds, tying his collegiate high with eight three-pointers and setting a Bluejay mark with 18 three-point attempts. Kalkbrenner had 22 points and 15 rebounds, both career-highs. The Bluejays also dished 26 assists on 30 field goals, led by seven helpers from Ryan Nembhard and six each by Hawkins and Alexander.
Georgetown was led by 16 points from Rice and Donald Carey. The Hoyas shot just 36.6 percent from the field.
The Hoyas and Bluejays meet again on Monday at 8 p.m. in Omaha in a game that will air on FS1.
