Katie Berrian leads the way for CU
SUGAR LAND, Texas -- The Creighton women's golf team fired a final round 309 to move up to seventh place at the HBU Husky Invitational on Tuesday, March 15, in Sugar Land, Texas.
After circuits of 314 and 320 on Monday, CU's 309 in Tuesday's final round was tied for the fourth-best mark in the 14-team field.
Sophomore Katie Berrian led Creighton in scoring for the first time in her career, firing rounds of 75, 79 and 79 for a 233 total that was good for a tie for 18th place.
Junior Katie Allen tied for 29th place following loops of 81, 76 and 80. That put her two shots ahead of freshman teammate Katherine Lemke, who tied for 38th place after scores of 82, 81 and 76.
Sophomore Gabby Tremblay turned in scores of 82 and 87 on Monday before posting CU's best round of the tournament (74) on Tuesday. Her 243 aggregate landed her in a tie for 47th place.
Freshman Eleanor Hudepohl opened with a 76 before consecutive rounds of 84 to tie for 50th place with a 244 total.
Tournament host Houston Baptist won the event by eight shots with a 913 total to edge out South Dakota. HBU's Lou Rousselot won the individual title in a tiebreaker over USC Upstate's Beem Pabsimma after both women shot a 223 total. There was no playoff and since both players shot the same final round score, the next tiebreaker was lowest score over the final nine holes.
The event featured 76 individuals and 14 teams and was contested on the par 72 Riverbend Country Club, which measured 6,084 yards..
The Bluejays are back in action on March 28-29 at the Diane Daugherty Invite in St. Charles, Mo.
