Creighton is a private, Jesuit institution located in Omaha, Neb., with 8,770 students. The University was founded in 1878 by Mary Lucretia Creighton, who established it in memory of her husband, telegraph pioneer Edward Creighton.
Prominent alumni include Bob Gibson (Hall of Fame pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals), Paul Silas (former NBA player and head coach), Kyle Korver (former NBA player), Doug McDermott (San Antonio Spurs), Pat Venditte (former ambidextrous MLB pitcher) and J. Joseph Ricketts (Chicago Cubs owner and founder of TD Ameritrade).
Creighton picked up the Bluejays moniker in 1924 after a newspaper coordinated a public contest to select a nickname and mascot.
Creighton officially joined the BIG EAST on July 1, 2013.
Creighton has been the host of the Men's College World Series since 1950, which will air on the ESPN family of Networks from June 16-27 this summer.

Scouting Creighton (22-9)
After reaching their first Sweet 16 in program history, the Bluejays want to keep the ride going.
Creighton's ability to attack what their opposition offers is one of the greatest strengths of the program. The Bluejays shoot well from outside (10th in the NCAA at 37.0%), but Creighton can get to the paint as well (900 points).
A trio of sophomores lead Creighton's offense, getting 14.7 ppg from Emma Ronsiek, 12.6 ppg from Lauren Jensen and 12.1 ppg from Morgan Maly. The tandem of Jensen and Maly have quick triggers beyond the arc, knocking down a combined 154 treys.
Creighton's offense is predicated on ball movement, something that is controlled by senior point guard Tatum Rembao. The Colorado native leads Creighton with 190 assists and has guided the Bluejays to the top spot in the NCAA in Assists per game (20.5) and assists-to-turnover ratio (1.59).
Scouting #10 Iowa State (28-6)
The Cyclones six losses this season came to LSU (currently in the Sweet 16 and a three seed), twice to Baylor (eliminated in the Second Round and a two seed) and three times to Texas (currently in the Sweet 16 and a two seed).
Iowa State is led by Ashley Joens (20.5 ppg), Lexi Donarski (14.4 ppg) and Emily Ryan (12.8 ppg). As a team the Cyclones shoot 43.5% from the field and have hit 349 three-pointers.
Keys To the Game on Friday, March 25
Player to Watch for Creighton
Emma Ronsiek: Ronsiek can be a matchup nightmare for Iowa State, with the ability to score down low but also stretch the defense.
Bluejays and Cyclones Share High Five
Creighton and Iowa State own five common opponents this season. Both squads have beaten Iowa, South Dakota State, Omaha and Northern Iowa. ISU defeated Drake 98-76, while Creighton fell to the Bulldogs in the season-opener, 82-79.
Creighton and Iowa State Also Share a Bloodline
Audrey Faber ranks fifth in Creighton history with 1,857 points and first with 160 blocked shots during her standout career from 2015-19.
The two-time First Team All-BIG EAST pick is the cousin of Caitlin Clark, Iowa's All-American who the Bluejays eliminated last Sunday. While on Friday in Greensboro, the Bluejays will look to take out Faber's sister, Haley, who is the assistant for women's basketball operations with Iowa State.
Ten Seed is the New 12 in WBB
Last weekend Creighton and South Dakota became the fourth and fifth No. 10 seeds to ever reach the Sweet 16, joining Missouri (2001), Florida State (2007) and Oregon (2017).
Since the NCAA tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1994, the first 108 teams to earn a No. 10 seed reached the second weekend roughly 2.8 percent of the time. With one more win, the Bluejays will join Oregon's 2017 team as the only No. 10 seed to advance to the Elite Eight.
Rethinking the Game Between the Bluejays and Coyotes
The Bluejays and Coyotes met in Omaha on Dec. 16, with the Coyotes rallying late for a 73-71 victory. USD led for just 58 seconds the entire contest.
Fast forward to March and the Bluejays as well as the Coyotes are each two wins away from a rematch at the Final Four.
Cyclones and Bluejay Women's and Men's Team Dance
Creighton is one of only 24 schools that placed both their men's and women's basketball teams in the NCAA Tournaments.
Of those, only 15 (Arizona, Baylor, Creighton, Gonzaga, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Miami Fla., Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas and Villanova) won at least one game in both tournaments.
Bluejays and BIG EAST Tidbits
Flanery and the Bluejays Have Championship History
Though Creighton has won consecutive NCAA Tournament games for the first time in program history, it isn't the first time Jim Flanery has led the Bluejays on a long postseason run. Flanery's first team (2002-03) reached the Final Four of the WNIT, while his second squad in 2003-04 won the WNIT.
Creighton and Iowa State Each have a Dynamic Duo
Creighton and Iowa State are the nation's only two teams with a pair of teammates who have both made 75 three-pointers. Ashley Joens (90) and Lexi Donarski (87) comprise that duo for the Cyclones, while Lauren Jensen (79) and Morgan Maly (75) have done it for the Bluejays. All four women rank in the top 35 nationally in three-pointers made.
Maly has played 52 games at the collegiate level and made a three-pointer in all but two of them. One of the exceptions was her third career game at South Dakota State in 2020, when she did not attempt any shots in six minutes of action.
