OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's soccer 2022 signing class grew to nine newcomers on Wednesday, March 23 as head coach Ross Paule announced the signing of NJCAA National Champion transfer Kurumi Arakawa from Eastern Florida State College.
Originally from Oyama, Tochigi, Japan, Arakawa will be a junior at Creighton, following two seasons with Eastern Florida State. Arakawa helped the Titans to their first NJCAA National Title in program history at midfield last season, while earning NJCAA First Team All-American and NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Year honors. During her two seasons with the Titans she started 23 matches and combined for two goals on 25 shots while leading the Titans backline that allowed 0.48 goals per game the last two years.
Arakawa started her college career at Barton College in Kansas. As a freshman, Arakawa combined for a team-high 16 points on six goals and four assists and was named to the All-KJCCC West Division Second Team. She graduated from Sakuyu High School in Tochigi, Japan, before moving to the United States.
"Kurumi is a very strong addition to our already talented midfield," said Paule. "She is excellent technically, very smart tactically and will connect us in attack and defense very well. We are excited to have her join us, and I look forward to seeing her develop and grow in our program."
Arakawa joins the 2022 signing class of Sydney Drees (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Ella Findlay (Auckland, New Zealand), Kailey Hall (Exeter, New Hampshire), Lara Kazandjian (Kirkland, Quebec), Hannah Luke (Darlington, England), Ariana Mondiri (Evry, France), Jess Torres (Humacao, Puerto Rico) and Reiss Wood (Overland Park, Kan.).
