New York, N.Y. -- For the third consecutive week a Creighton pitcher has claimed the top weekly honor from the BIG EAST as sophomore Cade Lommel collected the BIG EAST Pithcer of the Week nod on Monday, April 18. Fellow sophomore Alan Roden also earned some recognition with a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Lommel was dominant in the series finale, limiting St. John's to a pair of unearned runs in 7.1 innings. The southpaw notched a career-best nine strikeouts, allowing just six hits and one walk to earn his first win of the season. Lommel retired 10 straight through the middle of the contest, getting the final out of the third and setting down the next nine Red Storm batters to take the game into the seventh. Overall, the Bluejays won the game, 4-2, to sweep the weekend series and improve to 6-0 in BIG EAST play.
Roden led Creighton to a 3-0 weekend in the BIG EAST, delivering a pair of home runs in the Bluejays' doubleheader sweep on Saturday. Roden closed the weekend hitting .333 (4-for-12) with three extra base hits, three stolen bases, three RBI and four runs scored. He posted a .917 slugging percentage and a .357 on-base percentage.
