BIG EAST champion is Creighton's first postseason qualifier in golf
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman Katherine Lemke will make history as Creighton's first women's golfer to appear in the postseason on Monday when she tees off at the University of Michigan Golf Course to begin play in the NCAA Regionals.
Lemke tees off at 8:50 a.m. Central on Monday, with live scoring for the event available at http://GoCreighton.com/2022NCAAgolfscoring. Her tee times on Tuesday and Wednesday will be based on her place in the standings.
A native of Geneva, Ill., Lemke learned her postseason destination on April 27th during the NCAA Women's Golf Selection Show that was broadcast on The Golf Channel.
Lemke earned her spot in the NCAA Regionals by virtue of winning a playoff at the BIG EAST Championship on April 23rd, becoming Creighton's first BIG EAST individual champion in any sport when she rolled in a 20-foot putt on the first playoff hole. Her 213 total at the tournament was the best 54-hole score for Creighton in any event since at least 2003-04 and a figure that hasn't been surpassed by any player on any team at the league championship since 2013.
She has played 30 rounds this season, with four of those under par. Her 75.97 scoring average is the best by a Bluejay since at least 2003-04 and has helped her to four top-five finishes in 10 events played. Prior to earning medalist honors at the BIG EAST Championship, she had won the Creighton Classic on Oct. 12 and finished as the runner-up on April 12th at Stampede at the Creek. Entering NCAA Regionals, GolfStat ranks Lemke as the ninth-best golfer in the BIG EAST Conference.
Lemke was honored as BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST on May 3, the same day Debbie Conry was recognized as BIG EAST Coach of the Year. Now in her 29th year, Conry is the longest active tenured head coach at Creighton.
The University of Michigan Golf Course features a 6,265 yard layout and owns a par of 71.
There are six regional sites, with 72 total teams and 36 individuals invited to the 2022 NCAA postseason. Each regional site features 12 teams and six individuals, with the top four teams (24 total) and top two individuals (12 total) not on an advancing team heading to the national finals at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., Friday through Wednesday, May 20-25.
Ole Miss is the defending national team champion after claiming its first NCAA Division I women's golf national championship in school history in 2021. The Rebels defeated Oklahoma State 4-1 in the national championship match at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale. Stanford's Rachel Heck won the individual championship last year with an 8-under total of 280.
