NEW YORK – A league-high four Creighton teams were among the 22 teams recognized with 2021-22 Team Academic Excellence Awards for compiling the highest collective grade-point averages in each BIG EAST sport.
The winners were chosen based on the 2021-22 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
The CU sports that were honored were the Bluejay teams in women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country and volleyball.
Jim Flanery's women's basketball team owned a 3.41 GPA in the classroom and a 23-10 mark on the court. CU defeated Colorado, No. 8 Iowa and No. 10 Iowa State en route to the program's first Elite Eight in 2021-22.
The men's cross country team owned a 3.792 GPA, which ranked not only as the best mark in the BIG EAST but also in the nation according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. CU's women's cross country had the seventh-best GPA in the country with a 3.837 collective mark. Both teams are coached by Chris Gannon.
